Meltdown 2004: Microsoft Longhorn Reinvents Desktop Graphics July 31, 2004

Ok so having read the first couple pages of this article, let me sum this up for you folks. Basicly the new version of windows (to be released somewhere between 20xx and 2101) is going to be displayed using 3D rendering rather than standard 2D rendering that pretends to be 3D buttons & forms. Now the real question… is this good news or not? Well its a tough call right now but I’d say your typical Longhorn (codename for new Win) system is going to require a much beefier vid-card than previous ones. Which for someone like me, isn’t as much of a big deal, I’ve already got a good one for gaming. But if you are one of a few million people who prefer Solitare to Farcry and check email more than render complex graphics… well I think you see where I am heading. Congradulations for not stopping at making things better, MS, but for striving towards *bigger* and better.

df “IPO”? July 30, 2004
Posted by Aaron in : Play , add a commentOk so I’ve been tinkering around with BlogShares.com since I my log caught their spider hitting my site, and I’ve decided to try to get my blog listed for trading there. Find out how much they think my stupid chatter is worth
Update:
It appears that the initial price is $0.20/share, and there are 1000 shares. I’ve no real chances of driving it up because no incoming/outgoing link is recognized as a traded blog. So perhaps I’ll try to drive the price up some myself.
Snuggles July 27, 2004
Posted by BatWeasel in : General , add a commentAs you may have noticed, Jerod and I have an addition to our family! A three month old kitten named Snuggles. He is a white cat that looks like he’s had grey paint spilled on his back and head, and he has beautiful big green eyes. And he does NOT eat weasels. He’s just like a little kid - you get him all wound up with his toys and then he falls asleep in someone’s lap.
AC - if you try to corrupt my kitty you’ll be sorry! And he DOES realize the helmet is a litterbox.

I’ll explain when I’m not rushed for time, but the short story for now is that I’m going to train the JC’s new kitten to face the evils of this world (namely weasels)

Posted by Aaron in : Work , add a commenthave you ever looked into the algorithms behind search engines? specificly google and such? There are some really smart people involved tweaking hundreds of little factors to theoreticly provide the correct processing/indexing of so many ridiculous little sites (and yes, I include me). For instance, I’m fairly high ranked for the search “girls shooting ping pongs” on yahoo (#4 at the time I wrote this), because yahoo found 3 posts that between the 3 include those words (Of course just by talking about it I’m sure I’ll get even higher on the results), and thats just weird.

Posted by Aaron in : General , 1 comment so farI admit, I actually took the test twice (but all I did the second time is change the list of guests that I had to pick from). When the first time around spat out ‘ben affleck’ I demanded a recount. And you know what… life *is* like a box of chocolates….
