Once again, I (and we) are awesome January 19, 2005
Posted by Aaron in : Work , trackbackHuzza! I know it sounds egotistical, but trust me, it is true. I am indeed awesome. For I have summoned the code monkey gods and poured their power into my code. And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon…..
I won’t go into huge details, but sufficient to say that since around 9:30 tonight, I’ve been poking & proding prebuilt code blocks to establish how the guts work well enough for some more advanced tinkering than the current documentation base allows for. And as of about 45 minutes ago I decided that I’d sufficient understanding of the inner workings to do what I wanted to, and as of 5 minutes ago it worked beautifully (and like Edison, I’ve got a huge list of things that won’t work).
Now to explain why we are awesome. Oh and don’t bother saying I should be in bed, that point has passed, now I’m just trying to wind down enough from my 5 hour code-rave (who knows how long it would have taken without the ecstacy) to go to bed. Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, why we are awesome. As most of you know I work for a small computer consulting company in greenville illinois, as those who are more intimatly familiar with greenville may know, we’re not the only little computer shop in greenville (though oddly enough we don’t directly compete as much as you’d think). It turns out that our competitor in town is investigating the use of some open source IT software (yes, I see a few of you are remembering scattered comments & starting to grin). The software they are using is called OpenIT, and if you look at the list of admins/lead devs you will find 3 people. Myself, Michael & our friend Dan, who is an honorary Synthesys member having come to a company bbq and marvelled at how insane our bosses kids are (incidentally, those really are the only criteria for being honorary synthesys members, well and also you have to let one of us bug you on a regular basis. I think here is where I’m suppose to make some joke about how we’re looking for new honorary members for me to bother, preferable young single women, but I’m far to high-class to make such a reference, so obviously I wouldn’t have just said anything so silly.)
I’ve completely lost where I was headed, such is the penalty for working until 3am. William shatner is glaring at me from on my monitor, having long since given up telling me to go to bed. I think I’ll humor him.
