Family Thanksgiving December 2, 2005

Posted by Aaron in : Play , trackback

Ah so thanksgiving has come and gone. After a week or two of pondering posting about it, I decided to finally do it, albeit far later than I ought to be up. Pretty traditional thanksgiving with my dad’s side of the family, meaning that at the high point there were 2 grandparents, 6 parents, 8 grandkids and 3 dogs in the house. Unfortunatly two of the dogs (our basset hound Bosco and grandparent’s dog Cokie) are not quite friends, but my buddy Squeaker being a slightly older dog was happy enough to put up with everyone (except perhaps the more energetic of the grandkids). Much fun and festivities but the high point was when we raked their entire back yard into a big pile of leaves and proceeded to use the “padding” provided by it as an excuse to beat the stuffing out of each other. Of course we held back a lot from the younger cousins, but Jax, Victor and I layed into each other with vigor.

And now we get to the truely fun part, the story that is about the first one I’ve been telling people about thanksgiving this year. I assume everyones thanksgivings are like this, but with ours there is usually 1 specific thing that can be used to reference a given year. There was the year the cops thought Victor and I were breaking into the church. The year V & J went down in a pile during the family football game and V ended up fracturing an elbow. This year’s story… well during that wrestling around at one point as Jax and I were untangling ourselves from cousins (before the adults had gotten tired of watching us), I joked to him “Hey Jax, you should let me jump kick you.” I wasn’t terribly serious because I didn’t figure he’d actually agree to it. Except he did, and I found myself lining up on him from about 10 feet away. For the sake of the parents watching I said once more “Jax, this is going to hurt, are you sure you want to do this?” “Bring it”. So I did, I didn’t get anywhere near full speed in that 10 feet, but I was horizontal as I hit him with my knees bent. As I felt my feet make contact dead center on his chest I straightenned my knees. The pile of leaves didn’t break his fall. I can’t be entirely sure of how much of the 5 or so feet he spent in the air, though I’d guess a good 3 of it was flight. As for myself, I actually pushed myself slightly back the way I’d come, which since we both weigh around 180 explains his distance travelled. A few minutes later he was able to breath enough and he let Victor take a crack at him. Victor didn’t quite get enough speed and they basicly just fell over (Jax narrowly escaping a below the belt hit). That was the end of the jump kicking, though we wrestled around some more before we bagged the leaves all up and headed inside. Sorry folks, I may be able to come up with pictures of the pile of leaves but I certainly don’t have anything of the jump kicking, besides it really would require a video camera to do it justice.
