Great moments in Science! December 11, 2006
Posted by Aaron in : Play , trackbackSunday evening I made made a rather useful leap of logic that I thought I’d share. If only because its a safe bet you might need a laugh. I was running late for a church thing, and had a matter of minutes to find, cook and eat something. Simplest answer was “nuke 2 corn dogs” which I did, but then realized I’m out of time and need to head to the church (I walk because its too close to be worth driving). But then I realized, if I run over on foot, one of the corn dogs will get cold before I get there and that would be sad. Taking a moment to problem solve I realized something… a corn dog is roughly the same size as a cellphone. And my new jacket has an inner pocket for cellphones. So one corn dog tucked in its wrapper which was tucked into my jacket, I jogged across the landscape, enjoying two toasty corn dogs along the way. A handy fringe benefit was that while I was keeping it warm, it also warmed up the inside of my jacket. A lesson I’ll keep in mind next time I want to pre-heat my coat for another cross-town arctic adventure.

Another food warmer tip:
Hot dogs make good hand warmers at cold cross country meets.
Just tuck a couple in your jacket pockets and you’ll be toasty for a bit. Rewarming may be necessary before the meet is over.
kinda sounds like napoleon dynamite to me…
Another hand warmer tip:
On a recent walk I made an important discovery. I would advice using all caution when using this item as a hand warmer - most notiably protective cover for your hands and the “item”, a clothes pin might also be handy. The “item” that retains its heat for longer than a corn dog or hot dog is a natural biproduct of my walking companion. I would also caution that when seeking this particular “hand warmer” one must find a walking campanion bigger than a terrier but smaller than a lab as collecting the “item” could be too small to be effective or too large to be easily carried in it’s protective cover. A Bassett Hound will do - barring the runs that is. So enjoy your walk and may the aroma be with you!
