XKCD - Dating pools September 10, 2007

Normally great XKCD’s just get added to my shared link list, which I see isn’t showing up on this site like it should be. However this one deserves direct mention because I intend to quote it when given a chance, because like the character in the comic, I too believe that somewhere at the edge of the bell curve is the girl for me (No I don’t spend my weekends making graphs, I prefer to do that on tuesday evenings).

Glitterbeard the Boxfort pirate August 24, 2007

Glitterbeard

Surveying his domain, Glitterbeard repeats the mantra that has sustained him during all these years of piratical keelhauling across the seas of blue: Though cardboard and foam, wherever I roam, I shall always remember my boxfort home.

In other news, squeaker loves my beanbag, turtles love my back step, and though I don’t have a picture, cicadas love my new lawn mower (one was strafing the mower while I was using it).

AC: well I’ve got the content blocks defined, all I have to do now is make the pretty web 2.0 borders
AC: I don’t suppose there is a web 2.0 site that generates web 2.0 borders is there?
Dan: do you mean rounded corners?
AC: hehe of course
AC: web 2.0: rounded corners and content, none of which was created by you
Dan: http://www.roundedcornr.com/
AC: I knew it

That list has a name (and an acronym) and it is: Things to Encourage Aaron to Buy/Do because I Don’t Have the Money/Life-Insurance Policy. Michael started it and just might be willing to take a few good suggestions over on his blog, but rest assured he is checking this list twice.

Sufficient to say I’ll be looking for places to view/download this entire episode.

Live free or… February 12, 2007

There are several ways you can end the title of this post, however none is as strange as how Bruce Willis’s new movie chooses to end it. Live Free or Die Hard. Now I can see what they were going for, but I don’t think it quite works. Because when I read this title I ask myself, is Bruce Willis’s signature franchise actually threatening my freedom? I have to say I’m perplexed by this, why does Bruce Willis want to take my freedom away from me? Is his attempt to take my freedom half as absurd as the trailer suggests? And of course, does a terrorist really get his or her wings every time someone watches this movie? I’d continue to ponder this but I sense a renegade cop coming my way, and I’d like to finish watching this movie before he gets here. All you readers scattered across the country need to move to oklahoma so I have peeps to watch my movies with (technically I suppose I could take the peeps out of the fridge to watch the movie but their beady eyes make me more concerned for my freedom then any big boom movie title).

See squeaker’s favorite sleeping spot while it lasts (the camera, not the spot). Username and password are both “testing”.

Magnetix, Guys and Dolls and Stories That Shouldn’t Be Told on Dates January 27, 2007

So last night right before bed, I saw Guys and Dolls was on PBS. Having seen it performed live at Central, I wondered if this version was any good. So I set the Tivo to record and went to bed. Flash forward about 12 hours, to me out shopping. I ran across a box of Magnetix on sale and as I’ve always thought they would make great desk toys for work, I tossed them in the cart along with a few other things. If I stopped here, it would be a story of almost inconceivable mundain-ness (mundainosity? meh ok, “boring”), but as Michael just more or less pointed out I rarely stop where I should (of course he then said he was proud of me). The story doesn’t end there and neither will my telling of it.

I spent the afternoon playing with Magnetix and watching Guys and Dolls. No this wasn’t a date, though actually when Michael asked that, it did occur to me in some circles it might be a decent one. But there was just me, the TV, my magnetix and a newly washed squeaker (he’s extra squeaky after washing). I’ve even got pictures. Ok so at times I was more playing toys than watching tv, still not a bad afternoon.

Some of you may be thinking “wow that certainly is a story that shouldn’t be told on a date”, others may not be so sure the story is done yet. Perhaps sometime I’ll fax a cookie to the latter, for they are tonights lucky winners. The “Story that shouldn’t be told on a date” is actually separate from the above story, and for the record I’m not telling this on a date but on a website. Despite that, there is probably one reader who shouldn’t read any further. You know who you are though I doubt you are at this moment, navigating to another site. Oh well, I shall press on.

Along with the other things I purchased at walmart, I got squeaker some new dog treats. He loves Beggin Strips (though I discovered that if I run out of those, half a slice of bread seems to get him just as excited, so maybe “loves” should be in quotes). Called Pup-peroni, when I opened them I realized, man these things smell like beef jerky. Upon examining one I said man these things even look like beef jerky. *waits for that look of horror* *waits some more, because its such a great look of horror* From the little nibble I took, I can report they do taste a lot like beef jerky. However I don’t recommend them, A) beef jerky is cheaper by the pound and B) they have an aftertaste no doubt due to their preservatives that made me gag. In terms of “dog treats that I’d eat first if stranded with a wide variety” so far I’ll have to put them far below that of the ordinary cracker treats (which with enough water are not “good” per say, but edible).

There we go, I think I managed to actually capture 2 stories that shouldn’t be told on a date. What do you think Sirs?

Wil Wheaton linked to this comic and a friend and I have been going through sending links back and forth to each other of funny ones. I can’t figure out which one to present first so here we go with a link salvo.
